How We’re Making a Difference

Sipayik Resilience Committee’s Focus Areas

Sipayik Weatherization

The Sipayik Resilience Committee has done two window insert builds in 2023 and 2024 and is currently planning a window insert build for 2025. Contact info@sipayikresilience.org for more information.

Energy Audit Program

The Sipayik Resilience Committee collaborated with the College of the Atlantic to provide free energy audits for 11 homes of tribal members at Pleasant Point. Given future funding, the energy audit program will resume in 2025.

Community Engagement

The Sipayik Resilience Committee has conducted multiple community engagement meetings, including the Community Resilience Meeting in 2021 where tribal members voted on actions relating to community resilience, a community solar educational workshop in 2023, and is currently planning an energy symposium for May 2025.

Interested in Window Inserts for Your Home?

The Sipayik Resilience Committee is organizing a third window insert build with the non-profit organization WindowDressers. A window insert is a pine frame wrapped in 2 layers of transparent plastic and lined with weather-stripping. They are compression-installed in the interior side of existing windows to provide an extra layer of insulation against the existing glass and reduce heat loss, save energy, money, and emissions in the winter. One window insert is estimated to save about 8 gallons of heating oil per year. Window inserts are available free of charge for low-income tribal members. Individuals who are elderly, disabled, and low income will be prioritizedContact info@sipayikresilience.org for more information and/or fill out the survey below.

Interested in an Energy Audit for Your Home?

The Sipayik Resilience Committee is hoping to continue our free energy auditing and energy coaching program in 2025, contingent on future funding. Please revisit our site in May 2025 for an update on the energy auditing program. Energy auditors from the College of the Atlantic help to identify opportunities to reduce energy use and costs in residential homes and provide information on rebates, tax credits and funding available to make recommended improvements as affordable as possible. Participation in the program is voluntary; participants may choose whether or not to pursue any of the recommended improvements. Please fill out the energy audit survey if you are interested in an energy audit for your home and please note that we are still waiting to hear back from multiple funding sources.

Community Meetings

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about multiple community meetings the Sipayik Resilience Committee is planning for 2025. Possible events include a Power Up Energy Symposium in May, educational workshops on renewable energy options, Sipayik Resilience Committee membership and public meetings, and meetings related to the window insert build project.
