About Us

The Sipayik Resilience Committee was formed as a result of a Community Resilience Workshop that was held on August 28, 2022, where members of the community voted to focus on weatherization (i.e. window inserts), increasing energy efficiency, moving away from fossil fuels through the use of residential heat pumps, and exploring residential and community-scale solar energy. Since the SRC was founded, we have supported multiple citizen-led efforts towards sustainability, including the Sipayik Weatherization Initiative that provides free window inserts to weatherize the homes of tribal members, and a free energy auditing & energy coaching program in collaboration with the College of the Atlantic. We also conduct community outreach by organizing educational workshops related to sustainable energy.
